Former Virginia Tech WR Cam Phillips Named XFL Star of the Week

Cam Phillips 2

After a very good opening game with the XFL's Houston Roughnecks, Cam Phillips put on a show in week 2 that not only has him emerging as one of the faces of the XFL, but also earned him the league's highest honor.

Phillips was named the XFL Star of the Week after having 8 receptions for 63 yards and an impressive 3 touchdowns in Houston's 28-24 victory against the St. Louis Battlehawks. Phillips follows in the footsteps of his teammate P.J. Walker as the Houston QB was the XFL Star of the Week for the XFL's opening week.

Phillips has been among the best wide receivers in the XFL leading the league in receiving touchdowns with 4. Additionally, his 12 receptions rank third in the league and his 130 receiving yards rank fourth.

Phillips has quickly emerged as the top target on arguably the XFL's top passing attack and is showing plenty of NFL teams how he has the potential to be a productive backup receiver at minimum next season.

This comes after Phillips briefly was on the Buffalo Bills roster during the 2018 season before moving to the practice squad and then being cut at the end of training camp before the 2019 season.

Phillips has shown the type of versatility that teams need in backup receivers with his ability to work outside or in the slot. More importantly, Phillips is gaining valuable experience for his continued development that should prepare him even better for making a run at earning a role on an NFL team in 2020.

Cam Phillips will look to put on a show again as he, Colton Taylor, and the Houston Roughnecks face Ricky Walker and the Tampa Bay Vipers.
