Virginia Tech Basketball Poised For a Major Recruiting Weekend

Virginia Tech Basketball may have hit a cold stretch on the court lately, but the Hokies have continued to steady off the court in recruiting.

That success shows this weekend as Virginia Tech is set to host a few talented recruits including a pair of priority targets on official visits.

One of the two official visitors is 2021 four-star PG Carter Shirt, who is considering reclassifying to the 2020 class, as reported by Chris Arvin of 247 Sports and Corey Evans of Rivals.

While the Hokies have already signed a pair of talented four-star wings in Darius Maddox and Joe Bamisile, the Hokies could use a point guard if he's the right fit. Jalen Cone has shown potential to be a quality all-around point guard, but has done best with a true point guard like Wabissa Bede pairing with him this season.

Also, landing a point guard this cycle would allow for a greater focus on size next cycle with Cone and Whitt giving VT at least 2 quality point guards through the 2022-23 season.

Whitt is the type of high-end talented point guard that the Hokies would not turn down whether he's stays with the 2021 class or reclassifies to 2020.

Additionally, the Hokies are hosting priority big man target David N'Guessan on an official visit this weekend.

The Hokies are in great shape with the three-star power forward as he told us that VT is currently in his top 3 along with VCU and Saint Joseph's. N'Guessan also told us that he is considering making a decision next month with this visit providing a great chance to make a big move in his recruitment.

Virginia Tech will also have some unofficial visitors this Saturday including 6'10'' PF/C Kel'El Ware. Ware is a 2022 recruit out of Arkansas who currently holds offers from Arkansas, Oral Roberts, and Alcorn State according to Verbal Commits.

The Hokies are also hosting a pair of 2022 guards on unofficial visits in Cam Whitmore and Tyson Commander according to Chris Arvin of 247 Sports. Both have not been offered by Virginia Tech yet.

Here's the current running list of visitors for this weekend listed by the class they are currently classified with.

  • 2020 3* PF David N'Guessan (Official Visit)
  • 2021 4* PG Carter Whitt (Official Visit)
  • 2022 PF/C Kel'El Ware
  • 2022 SG/SF Cam Whitmore
  • 2022 SG Tyson Commander

We will add more visitors to this list as recruits either publicly state their intentions, confirm to us directly, or confirm to another reporter who reports that in a non-paywall format.
