Our countdown of the top 10 Hokies from the 2017 season as voted by The Tech Lunch Pail staff continues at #8 with Wyatt Teller.
When Wyatt Teller arrived in Blacksburg, he came in as a highly-touted four-star defensive lineman. As he leaves Blacksburg, he leaves as one of the best offensive lineman to come through Virginia Tech over the past decade.
For the first time in his career, Teller played and started every game this season for the Hokies. While Teller hadn't started one or two games the previous two seasons, Teller had a strong camp and an impressive season from start to finish especially as a run blocker.
Teller's great season led him to earning All-ACC First Team honors
after being a Preseason All-ACC honoree before this season. Teller also received some national recognition for his 2017 performance from Pro Football Focus.
The senior offensive guard was a leader on the offensive line and consistently a standout performer even when the offensive line had its struggles. Pro Football Focus is one of the best at evaluating offensive lineman, making Teller's presence on this list all the more impressive.
Looking ahead to the NFL Draft, Teller profiles as an above-average run blocker while having the size that teams look for in offensive line. Teller's athleticism is a plus while he can be trusted as a pass blocker and should be able to come in and at worst, be a part of your offensive line rotation as a rookie.
Most who cover the NFL Draft have Teller as one of the top 10 offensive guards while some have him among their top 5 guards. Right now, Teller looks like a fourth to fifth round pick with the potential to rise to being a second day draft pick if Teller can have a big NFL Combine.
While Cam Phillips will be a significant loss for the Hokies' offense, Teller may be a more significant loss with VT likely to look to guys like Tyrell Smith, D'Andre Plantin, and Demetri Moore to step up.
