Four-Star SG Darius Maddox Commits to Virginia Tech

Vt students against ole miss

After taking an official visit to Virginia Tech Sunday-Tuesday, four-star SG Darius Maddox announced this evening that he has committed to the Hokies.

Maddox becomes Virginia Tech's second 2020 commit alongside four-star SG Joe Bamisile with both players being ranked in the top 100 of every major recruiting ranking.

With the addition of Maddox, the Hokies' 2020 class is now ranked tenth nationally with Virginia Tech in serious contention for a few more consensus top 100 recruits.

The Hokies have continued to build lots of regional momentum this cycle adding the D.C. native (and soon-to-be Oak Hill star this season) Maddox to Richmond native Bamisile while making the cut recently for four-star SF Henry Coleman III out of Richmond and four-star C Mark Williams out of Norfolk.

Overall, this is the latest recruiting statement by Mike Young and his staff that is silencing any remaining doubts from fans about his ability to recruit. Clearly, the Hokies have a lot of recruiting momentum even when the current rebuild is well-documented, illustrating how great of a job VT has done at selling Mike Young's vision and plan for long-term success in Blacksburg.

Additionally, it's impressive to see the Hokies close on an elite recruit especially after he was expected to take an official to Georgetown soon after his VT visit. Clearly, that changed with the Hokies blowing Maddox away so much to lead him to commit to Virginia Tech and not consider the Hoyas or anyone else.

Looking ahead, expect the Hokies' focus to fully shift to the frontcourt with Coleman, Williams, and four-star PF PJ Hall being among Virginia Tech's top targets.
