Virginia Tech landed their second major commitment of the weekend on defense with three-star DL Derrell Bailey Jr committing to the Hokies.
Bailey chose the Hokies over an impressive offer list that includes the likes of LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas, Oregon, Mississippi State, South Carolina, and several more Power 5 offers on a list that includes over 30 different Power 5, Group of 5, and FCS programs.
Bailey is the Hokies' first defensive line commit in the 2020 class along with the first commit from the state of Tennessee this recruiting cycle. With the commitments of Bailey and Dorian Strong
, the Hokies now have four defensive commits as those two join three-star LB Tyreem Powell and three-star ATH/S Lakeem Rudolph.
While the recruiting sites have Bailey at defensive end, his future appears more likely to be at defensive tackle where he currently plays. Bailey also has the frame at 6'5'' and 255 pounds to grow into having the weight to play on the interior at the collegiate level. Bailey also shows a good amount of athleticism for his size that may be in part due to his status as a two-sport athlete in high school with football and basketball.
