Hokies Recruiting: Logan Byrd Decommits from Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies have built a strong class with eight commits including six that are not from the state of Virginia. The Hokies have had plenty of momentum on the recruiting trail, especially after getting a commitment from three-star RB/S Reggie Floyd who is rated as a four-star running back by ESPN(though has said he will play safety at VT). Unfortunately, the Hokies have suffered a loss on the recruiting trail today. https://twitter.com/LoganByrd2016QB/status/575006290604392448 The loss of Logan Byrd is significant, but the Hokies are still not out of the hunt for Byrd just yet. However, the recruitment of Byrd seems wide open while the Georgia quarterback seems likely to receive more offers. One school that seems likely to be right in the hunt is Pittsburgh led by their new offensive coordinator Jim Chaney. Chaney knows how to recruit in Georgia, and should make it very interesting in their pursuit of Byrd. Meanwhile, the Georgia Bulldogs have been lurking and will likely become the favorites for Byrd if they offer him a scholarship. Byrd committed to the Hokies before fans had even heard about Dwayne Lawson, but the impact of Lawson coming to Blacksburg is a big change that may be causing Byrd to decommit. Byrd may see early playing time opportunities as more likely elsewhere, and that is enough for him to decommit from the Hokies for now. Meanwhile, four-star QB Dwayne Haskins had an interesting response to Byrd decommitting on Twitter that we were able to capture. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/575019419811909632 Haskins is from Potomac, Maryland and the Hokies do have a proximity to home advantage over many programs. The Hokies are also not seen as one of the frontrunners for Haskins, but Virginia Tech seems to be on the rise for the four-star quarterback from Maryland. Already, there is some fallout from Logan Byrd's decommitment and it will be interesting to see what happens with the Hokies and their pursuit of some of the top Class of 2016 quarterbacks.
