Three-Star DB Jalen Hoyle Commits to Virginia Tech

HOKIES Flag 1

Virginia Tech landed their first recruit in the 2021 class tonight as three-star DB Jalen Hoyle committed to the Hokies this evening.

Hoyle gives the Hokies their third-straight class with a commit from the state of New Jersey, joining four-star DB Ny'Quee Hawkins from the 2019 class, and three-star LB Tyreem Powell in the 2020 class.

Hoyle had this to say on why he chose the Hokies.

"I just feel like it was the right place for me and the right time to make the decision, and the coaching staff is amazing," Hoyle said.

When asked about why now was the "right time", Hoyle mentioned how he and his family felt Virginia Tech was home for him.

"Me and my family just felt like it was the right time and that it was home," Hoyle said.

The Hokies are currently the only offer for Hoyle, but more major offers appear to be looming with Hoyle being ranked as the 25th best safety in the 2021 class by 247 Sports along with schools like Penn State, Stanford, and Wake Forest showing interest in him. Most of that is due to his performance as Hoyle told us in mid-October that he has 47 tackles on the season while opponents have avoided him so much that he hasn't been targeted once by an opposing QB.

Hoyle is also one of the better rated talents in New Jersey with 247 Sports ranking him as the 15th best 2021 recruit in the Garden State which has been a growing hotbed for college football talent.

Jalen Hoyle's commitment shouldn't come as a major surprise as the three-star DB and Virginia Tech have had significant mutual interest for months with Hoyle having visited Blacksburg 3 times previously. Additionally, Hoyle told us recently that he plans to visit Blacksburg soon with his target date being November 9th when the Hokies host Wake Forest.
