James Mitchell, Chamarri Conner are the Hokies of the Game Against Georgia Tech

James Mitchell 1

Virginia Tech has continued to play better and better with their recent dominance reaching a crescendo with a 45-0 victory at Georgia Tech. The Hokies had plenty of standout performances, but James Mitchell and Chamarri Conner stood out the most to earn this week's Hokies of the Game honors.

Offensive Hokie of the Game: James Mitchell

Virginia Tech's offense put together another impressive performance with James Mitchell having the biggest performance on a day of many standout performances.

Mitchell was the featured receiver on this day in the passing attack with 4 catches for 90 yards and a touchdown. His 4 receptions and 90 receiving yards were both career highs while his touchdown was his second receiving and fifth overall of the season.

Mitchell's athleticism has given the Hokies a versatile amount of ways to use him not only in the passing game, but even to use him in the running game at times. While Mitchell wasn't used in the running game on this day, his effectiveness in the passing game shined brightest in his impressive performance.

Hendon Hooker only needed 2.5 quarters to on a strong display going 9-13 for 159 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 2 touchdowns and a net of 10 yards. Keshawn King had a strong game with 2 catches for 82 yards and 7 carries for 29 yards and a touchdown. Tre Turner only had 3 touches, but he did a lot with them with a 39-yard carry and 2 catches for 46 yards.

Defensive Hokie of the Game: Chamarri Conner

After not being 100% in a couple recent games, Chamarri Conner appears to be 100% healthy again and played like the playmaker that he has proven to be for much of this season.

Conner led the Hokies with 7 tackles including 2 for loss and a QB hurry as Conner made lots of plays for the Hokies once again. Conner has been the type of playmaking nickelback that Bud Foster defenses have always relied on to do what Conner has done this season. The play of Conner is a big reason why the Hokies have been able to take major steps forward on the defensive side with his return health helping the Lunch Pail defense take another step forward.

Caleb Farley had his fourth interception of the season returning this one 17 yards for a touchdown as Farley was a lockdown CB otherwise. Dax Hollifield had a strong game with 3 tackles including one for loss and an interception while Alan Tisdale had 3 tackles including 2 sacks plus a pass breakup. DaShawn Crawford had another strong game with 3 tackles including 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
