With just over two days until the Notre Dame game, hype is building in Blacksburg. The excitement increases for one particular player today, as Khalil Ladler has been announced as the special teams player to wear No. 25 during this weekend’s game.
Ladler joins Ricky Walker, Eric Kumah, Jovonn Quillen and Oscar Bradburn as the players to be honored with the jersey so far this season. This will be his first time wearing the No. 25 jersey.
A sophomore defensive back, Ladler has been impactful for the Hokies in 2018. He has registered 20 tackles on the season, including 2.5 tackles for loss. He set a season high with eight tackles against Old Dominion on Sept. 22. In last week’s win against Duke, Ladler made six tackles and one pass breakup to help lead the Hokies to the win.
The wearer of the No. 25 jersey has not always had a good game this season, but Ladler has been consistent for Tech, so fans should expect a big game from him as he dons the honorary threads.
Wearing the jersey will be extra special this weekend as former Hokies coach Frank Beamer is honored before and during the game. A monument to Coach Beamer will be unveiled at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday in Moody Plaza outside Lane Stadium. The first-ballot College Football Hall of Famer will also be honored by the National Football Foundation during halftime of Saturday’s game.
Ladler will take the field with the No. 24 Hokies when they take on No. 6 Notre Dame this Saturday at 8 p.m.
