Virginia Tech made some noise in their specialist recruiting today adding one of the top 2020 kickers on the East Coast in Cosby HS K Kyle Lowe.
Lowe, a preferred walk-on, chose the Hokies over an offer from in-state Virginia. Lowe is ranked as the 18th best kicker in the 2020 class by Kohl's Kicking
with the premier kicking site giving him a five-star rating.
There is definitely potential for Lowe to have an opportunity to compete early for playing time with Brian Johnson being a redshirt junior this fall, leaving the potential for an open job in 2020 or a competition sooner depending on Johnson's performance this season.
Adding Lowe also gives the Hokies another in-state commit to go along with the trio of in-state, on-scholarship commits (Lakeem Rudolph, CJ Beasley, Noah Kim) that the Hokies currently have. It also gives VT some recruiting momentum in the Richmond area that is loaded with talented 2020 and 2021 recruits including four-star DB Malcolm Greene and 2021 four-star DEs Bryce Carter and Kelvin Gilliam.
