After being one of the first recruits offered
by Mike Young upon his arrival at Virginia Tech, four-star PG Myles Tate made his first visit to Blacksburg this past weekend.
Myles Tate had this to say about his visit to Blacksburg.
"The visit was great. I love the campus, the coaches showed my family and I love, and the experience was great," Tate said about his visit.
Tate added that the way the coaching staff treated his family "was big for me", another sign that his visit to Virginia Tech went quite well.
During his time at Virginia Tech, Tate told us that he had a chance to tour the facilities and Cassell Coliseum followed by a golf cart tour of Virginia Tech's campus.
Unsurprisingly, Tate spent hours with the coaching staff and noted to us how well that the staff treated him and his family. Tate also is building strong relationships with the whole coaching staff whether its Mike Young and Kevin Giltner from their time at Wofford or new assistants that didn't stay at VT or didn't come from Wofford like Chester Frazier.
"Coach Mike Young and Coach Giltner and I have been close for a while. The other coaches such as Coach Fraizer and i are building our relationship," Tate said about the relationships he has with the coaching staff.
So how did this visit impact his recruitment?
"I like Virginia Tech a lot. I can see myself playing there and I will consider the school," Tate said.
On paper, Virginia Tech and South Carolina appear to be the frontrunners for the four-star point guard with the Hokies benefiting from the strong relationship between Myles Tate and Mike Young that started at Wofford. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Hokies receive an official visit from Tate at some point later in the year while the Gamecocks seem likely to receive one as well at some point.
However, don't be surprised if Tate's offer list grows a lot this summer. Tate just received a four-star rating from 247 Sports and given the interest from Virginia Tech, South Carolina, and Clemson; it's clear that Tate is much better than his offer list would suggest. If anything, it appears that the Hokies, Gamecocks, and Tigers have done well to see that four-star F PJ Hall isn't the only talented player at South Carolina powerhouse Dorman HS.
Virginia Tech has emerged as a serious contender for rising four-star PG Myles Tate as the Hokies are building momentum after Tate's first visit to Blacksburg, but have plenty of work ahead.
