Paul Hutson III, a 2022 DT/OG from Maury High School in Norfolk, VA, is planning a Virginia Tech visit in the near future. At 6 foot, 245 pounds, Hutson already has a college sized body. With 3 seasons still left to improve, he is certainly attracting some early attention.
At this time, Virginia Tech and Southern Miss are the only schools who have offered Hutson. However, he says that many other Power 5 schools including UVA, UNC, Wake Forest, Clemson, and South Carolina have all shown interest. Although it is still early, Hutson says that his coach is telling him that Virginia Tech is recruiting him the hardest.
"I have been invited by a few schools to come visit and begin building a relationship," said Hutson. Still, as a young freshman, he is making sure not to rush the process.
"The most important thing currently is my classwork, and getting everything I can out of this offseason to get better," he said.
According to UltimateRecruit.com
, Virginia Tech running back's coach Zohn Burden has been Hutson's primary recruiter. Burden is also the one who extended him an offer as his area recruiter.
Right now, Hutson says the Hokies are not recruiting him harder at either of the two positions that he can play. Instead, Virginia Tech is recruiting him as an OG/DT and waiting to "see how he develops."
For most of his early career, Hutson says that he played on the defensive side of the ball.
"I love DT," he said. "It fits my passion, attitude, and I can make plays for my team." At the same time, he has embraced playing on the offensive line as well.
"I am working hard at both positions," he said. "I had never played OL before, but it was about team, and I wanted to help any way I could."
While he has not set any official visit dates yet, Hutson says that he has been working with his father and coaches to finalize some dates. Since the Hokies were his first offer and are currently recruiting him the hardest, they will be near the top of the list.
"I plan on furthering my relationship Virginia Tech this winter [or] spring," said Hutson. "I want to learn more about the academic side, campus, support for athletes, and of course, get to know the coaching staff."
Paul Hutson III is sure to gain plenty more offers in the coming years. After all, he already has interest from some of the biggest names in the sport. However, the fact that Zohn Burden and the Virginia Tech staff have shown such early interest and even extended an offer has put the Hokies in a good position.
