Virginia Tech has continued the tradition of awarding the #25 jersey to a hard-working player that plays special teams for a third-straight year. For Monday night's primetime opener against Florida State, the Hokies chose their star defensive player for the honor.
Ricky Walker was chosen to wear the #25 jersey for the Hokies' season opener against #19 Florida State. This is the first time that Walker has been chosen to ear the #25 jersey in his career.
Last season, Walker was impressive in his first full season as a starter with 41 tackles, 12.5 total tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 6 QB hurries on his way to earning All-ACC Honorable Mention honors.
Walker has emerged as not only the Hokies' best returning player, but also the leader of VT's defense. Unsurprisingly, Walker was also one of four players named as captains
for Virginia Tech earlier this week. In addition, Walker has been praised throughout the past year for his leadership and was also chosen to be the Hokies' defensive representative at ACC Media Day.
Congrats to Ricky Walker on receiving the first #25 jersey of the 2018 season.
