USC Transfer Asiah Jones Commits to Virginia Tech

Asiah Jones, a 6 foot 3 forward transfer from USC, has committed to play for Virginia Tech. Jones broke the news on her Twitter page Tuesday morning. https://twitter.com/asiahmonet98/status/1120515080909676547?s=19 Jones saw action in 29 games as a freshman during the 2016-17 season. After an injury forced her to redshirt in 2017-18, she averaged 4.7 points and 3.2 rebounds a game this past season as a redshirt sophomore. As a recruit in 2016, ESPN listed Jones as a 3-star prospect. She played primarily as a backup at USC, recording starts in just 11 of the 55 games she appeared in for the Trojans. Currently, it is unknown whether or not Jones will be eligible to play immediately. In any case, she will have two years of eligibility left when she arrives at Virginia Tech. Should Jones be able to play this season, she will add depth to a forward group that will lose one of the best players ever to wear a Hokies' uniform in Regan Magarity. Coming from the Pac-12, she is already familiar with power conference basketball which should allow her to acclimate to the ACC easily and contribute immediately. Even without Magarity and fellow senior Alexis Jean, the Hokies will have some size next season. Rising sophomore Trinity Baptiste will return for her second season with the Hokies, and JUCO product Alex Obouh Fegue figures to factor in after transferring from Eastern Florida. In addition, 5-star recruit Elizabeth Kitley from Summerfield, NC is set to arrive on campus and make an immediate impact. Add Asiah Jones to the mix, and the Hokies will have a good number of options in the post.
