Virginia Tech still has a few open spots in their 2021 recruiting class and seem to be looking at adding one more defensive back with Blythewood, SC CB Zi'Kef Johnson being among the targets.

Johnson had previously told us that he was receiving interest from the Hokies which has continued led by CBs coach Ryan Smith.

"I’m still receiving interest. Coach Ryan Smith spoke with my position coach about me in details. He loves my skillset and physicality," Johnson said.

The Hokies aren't the only Power 5 program actively interested in Johnson with N.C. State, Kansas State, and Syracuse also involved. Johnson also told us that he feels N.C. State and Kansas State may be close to offering him especially with both of those schools working on virtual visits. To date, Johnson has received offers from Charlotte and Georgia Southern.

Johnson is hoping that the Hokies may offer him soon and if they do, Tech would immediately be the frontrunner to land him.

"I’m hoping soon. I’m not sure how many spots they have left for the ‘21 DBs but they’ll definitely be my favorite if they offer," Johnson said.

He had this to say about why the Hokies would be his favorite if they offered him.

"VT is my dream school and to me, they're DBU," Johnson said.

Power 5 offers could be coming soon because of the way he's played so far this season with Johnson rarely being targeted but stepping up when he has been while being a dynamic return man as he told us.

"So far, my season has gone well. I came into the season not expecting to get targeted a lot based on last year's performance. So for me, it's been about executing my technique whether I'm in press man or off man, and making plays for my team whenever the ball does come my way. I've been targeted only 3 times so far out of 2 games and have 1 INT. I'm also the return guy and I'm averaging 40 yards a return whenever they do kick it to me," Johnson said.

Looking ahead, Johnson knows that his time in high school may end in 2020 as he currently plans to be an early enrollee and is looking at making a decision in the "next few weeks" though he doesn't have a set date yet.

Keep an eye on Zi'Kef Johnson as the Hokies look at potentially adding one more cornerback to their 2021 class.
