2022 is setting up to be another loaded recruiting cycle full of talented players from Virginia with three-star WR Leon Haughton Jr among them.

The good news for Virginia Tech is that they are off to a strong start in his recruitment as he told us.

"I like what Virginia Tech has to offer so as of right now, I have taken them into deep consideration," Haughton said.

He added this about why Tech is under "deep consideration" for him.

"Not only is Virginia Tech high up on the scale whenever it comes to academics, they are also one of the top schools and is in arguably the best conference in college football. With those two factors alone, that is the reason why I have taken Virginia Tech into deep consideration," Haughton said.

Haughton also said that Penn State is also recruiting him hard with the Nittany Lions currently standing out for him.

This comes as Haughton has built up a solid offer list that, in addition to VT and PSU, also includes Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Boston College, Wake Forest, and Buffalo. Additionally, Haughton is receiving interest from several other Power 5 programs including Clemson, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Arizona State, and Northwestern.

Unsurprisingly, CBs coach Ryan Smith is leading the charge for the Richmond star with Haughton building a strong relationship with Tech's primary 804 area recruiter.

"Coach (Ryan) Smith is really a genuine guy. I can tell that he cares more about my well being than how good I am in football so he is my guy," Haughton said.

Haughton is definitely an intriguing wide receiver prospect who at 6'4'', brings tremendous size to the table. His production backed up his potential as he told us previously that he had 30 receptions for 600 yards and 7 touchdowns as a sophomore.

Now with no fall football season, Haughton is focused on his personal development with the goal of setting himself up to take over whenever the next HS football season may be.

"Since there is no season, I am going to be focused on using the extra offseason to perfect my craft so whenever the spring season comes, I will be unstoppable," Haughton said.

As Virginia Tech prepares to prioritize the Commonwealth of Virginia during the 2022 cycle, get ready to remember the name Leon Haughton Jr. as a priority WR target for the Hokies.
