Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Notes 10/2/20

Check out the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes as we turn the calendar to October and the Hokies look to build off their season-opening win against N.C. State.

3* DB Jalen Hoyle

Jalen Hoyle was one of Virginia Tech's first 2021 commits as he made that decision quite early on. However, Hoyle is taking his time with his decision on whether to enroll early or not.

Hoyle also told us that the main factors in his decision to enroll early or not will surround his physical conditioning.

"Pretty much what shape I am in and if I feel physically ready," Hoyle said on what the factors are in his decision to enroll early or not.

Hoyle did tell us that Georgia Tech and Rutgers are continuing to keep contact with him in addition to the Hokies, but there is no reason to think that Hoyle won't end up in Blacksburg.

In the meantime, Hoyle is prepping for his senior season which starts this weekend and has some clear goals for it.

"My goals are to make all state and lead my team to a first ever in school history, to go undefeated," Hoyle said.

3* DT Tyler Onyedim

Virginia Tech is still looking to add at least one defensive tackle to their class with a player committed to another Power 5 schools emerging as a potential target.

Iowa State commit DT Tyler Onyedim tells us that he has been receiving interest from the Hokies and in contact with VT coaches on a regular basis. Defensive line coach Darryl Tapp and assistant Beau Davidson are the two Tech coaches that have been leading the charge with him.

According to his 247 Sports offer page, the Hokies have not offered Onyedim yet, but Tapp's involvement in his recruitment does indicate that the Hokies are seriously considering extending one. He also would seem to fit the mold for Tech getting bigger on the defensive line with his 6'3'', 277-pound frame that likely could see him grow into a 300+ pound DT.

If Tech does offer, they could definitely make a strong run at flipping him especially with the success they've had landing four commitments from the Lonestar State over the past two recruiting cycles.

3* ATH Jaden Keller

Three-star athlete Jaden Keller is down to his top 7 with the Hokies making the cut for him.

The Hokies were joined by Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, and Western Kentucky in Keller's top 7. He had this to say about why the Hokies made his top 7.

"Great culture and school love the environment, all around good school," Keller said.

RBs coach Adam Lechtenberg has been leading the charge for much of Keller's recruitment for the Hokies though Tech is recruiting him as an athlete who does have the versatility to play WR or DB.

The big question that has surrounded Keller and the Hokies is whether Tech has the room given the numerous wide receivers and defensive backs they have committed currently. However, it's clear that the Hokies are at least trying to keep the door open as they continue to figure out the numbers that are very tight currently.

Keep an eye on Jaden Keller as the unique 2021 recruiting cycle starts to enter some of its closing stages with plenty of things up in the air especially with the dead period running through the end of 2020.
