Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Notes 12/10/19

JP107058

With Early Signing Day just over a week away, Virginia Tech has been busy on the recruiting trail pushing hard for recruits from across the country from prep school in Connecticut to high school stars in the Lone Star State. With that said, here's the latest recruiting news and notes.

Tee Denson Sets Decision Date

Tee Denson is one of Virginia Tech's top remaining 2020 targets with the talented cornerback and former Pittsburgh commit setting a commitment date.

Denson will make his commitment this Saturday with Virginia Tech being among the serious contenders for Denson. Additionally, Kansas State is a team to watch for Denson after he took an official to Manhattan last week while taking an official to Purdue the previous weekend according to 247 Sports.

Defensive back has been a priority for the Hokies over the past month, and Denson has been right at the top of the list for Virginia Tech. Denson also appears to fit the profile well a Virginia Tech defensive back given his length at 6'1'' while he is also is in a prime recruiting territory for Virginia Tech in Georgia.

Right now, the Hokies look like the slight favorite for Denson as the one constant as schools like Miami, Wake Forest, Purdue, and Kansas State have either come and gone, or just recently arrived.

Trio of TX Defensive Ends Set to Visit This Weekends

Virginia Tech is set to host a trio of Texas defensive ends this upcoming weekend. In addition to former Missouri DE commit Robert Wooten (who previously told us of his intentions), four-star DE (and former LSU commit) Alec Bryant, and three-star DE (and former Texas Tech commit) Clinton Anokwuru will also be taking official visits this weekend.

Bryant may be the most surprising name with schools like Texas and USC trying to get involved since he decommitted from LSU. Despite that, the Hokies have pushed hard and have a great opportunity this weekend to try to see if they can seal the deal with Bryant and get him on board in the early window.

Anokwuru seems like a February target for the Hokies with the three-star DE telling us that he is not currently planning on signing with a team next week. In the meantine, Anokwuru has told us that Virginia Tech and Texas Tech are among the top schools in his recruitment at the moment.

Virginia Tech has made the defensive line a point of emphasis as they make a big push to Early Signing Day with the Hokies gaining traction with a trio of talented defensive ends from Texas.

Three New 2020 Offers

The Hokies have also extended a trio of notable 2020 offers over the past week. Those offers have gone to three-star OL/Bowling Green commit Kaden Moore, prep school TE Wilfried Pene, and three-star ATH Khatavian Franks.

Pene is the most notable name to keep an eye on as he's teammates with Alante Brown at St. Thomas More in Connecticut. Pene also told us that he plans to take an official visit this weekend with the Hokies looking to land Pene before other major programs get involved with Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, and Pittsburgh among those showing interest.

Moore may be listed as an offensive tackle by some, but Moore also has the size to fit the interior of the offensive line where Tech is likely looking for an addition having lost John Harris, Joe Kane, and Will Pritchard for various reasons over the past few weeks. Tech is also the only Power 5 offer for Moore at the moment and in theory, Tech should have a great opportunity here but also has work to put in.

Franks is the most recent offer for Virginia Tech having the versatility to play either linebacker or running back. Franks could be a backup plan in case Tyreem Powell ends up committing after the departure of Brian Mitchell, the coach who he was closest with on Tech's staff. Franks could also fit well as a second linebacker to go with Powell in the 2020 class.

At this point, any 2020 offer from Tech is a big one given the proximity to Early Signing Day.
