Virginia Tech Football Recruiting Notes 6/28/20

Check out the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes ahead of what could be a very big week for Virginia Tech on the recruiting trail.

3* LB Isi Etute

757 LB Isi Etute is down to a top 3 with two of the schools making the cut being recent Power 5 offers.

Etute is down to Virginia Tech and N.C. State; both of whom offered him recently and are also battling for four-star LB Jordan Poole, and West Virginia. Etute also tweeted out that he will be announcing his decision on July 11th.

Though Etute was a recent offer for Virginia Tech, I'm hearing that Tech is the frontrunner for Etute at this point and I would personally put a prediction in the Hokies' favor for him.

Etute could join a linebacker class that includes three-star LB Will Johnson and three-star in-state LB Keli Lawson, who could end up in a hybrid role or even moving to defensvie end. Additionally, the Hokies are in great shape for four-star LB Jordan Poole and could have their linebacker class wrapped up by mid-June.

2022 4* WR Mehki Flowers

Mehki Flowers is poised to be a top target for Virginia Tech in the 2022 class with the Hokies in good shape early on in his recruitment.

Flowers told us the Hokies are among the schools currently standing out in his recruitment along with Penn State, Arizona State, and in-state Rutgers. This comes from a solid offer list that already includes a 8 Power 5 offers and 17 offers in total. He is also ranked as the 78th best recrui in the country in the 2022 class by 247 Sports.

Tech has made a push into the northern Mid-Atlantic this cycle especially with landing QB Tahj Bullock and DB Jalen Hoyle. Flowers has also shown plenty of interest in Virginia Tech on social media, another sign that Tech is a legit contender for him early on.

Keep an on Mehki Flowers as a top target for Virginia Tech in the 2022 class.

2022 3* CB Akim Sledge

The 2022 class is setting up to be another strong class in Virginia with three-star CB Akim Sledge being among the most talented recruits in the state. Unsurprisingly, that has led to major programs pushing hard for Sledge.

Sledge told us that Virginia Tech and Penn State are currently recruiting him the hardest with CBs coach Ryan Smith unsurprisingly leading the push for the Hokies. Sledge added that he and Ryan Smith have built a "great connection" so far that could prove valuable in Tech's pursuit of him.

Akim Sledge has the versatility to play wide receiver or defensive back, but cornerback looks like his most likely spot at the next level after a sophomore season during which he had 38 tackles, 2 interceptions, 9 pass breakups, and 1 forced fumble; returning one of his INTs 62 yards for a touchdown. Sledge also had 27 catches for 526 yards and 1 receiving touchdown.
