Virginia Tech has had an interesting week on the recruiting landing three-star RB Kenji Christian and flipping three-star TE Jared Gibble, while missing out on in-state, four-star DT Tyleik Williams. With all that in mind, here are the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes with a focus on defense

4* DT Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins

With Tyleik Williams off the board, Virginia Tech's defensive line recruiting focus shifts onto a few other targets including 4* DT Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins.

The Hokies surprisingly made his top 6 last month and while Tech wasn't considered a favorite, they did seem like a team on the rise that could be a bigger contender than expected.

From talking with a contact in Ingram-Dawkins' region, the vibe remains that in-state South Carolina is the favorite in his recruitment. North Carolina has also been seen as a large contender in the past, but the Gamecocks currently look like the frontrunners.

Virginia Tech has definitely made up a lot of ground to make it into his top 6, but they clearly seem to have some more ground still to make up if they want to beat out South Carolina and others.

3* DT Jerrell Boykins Jr.

Tech is also keeping an eye on a few other defensive tackles including three-star DT Jerrell Boykins Jr.

Boykins told us that he has been hearing from Tech over the past couple days with recruiting assistant Beau Davidson leading the charge. Additionally, Boykins has been followed on Twitter by defensive line coach Darryl Tapp in another sign that Tech's interest in Boykins is growing.

Boykins told us that he has received five official offers from Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas State. Meanwhile, Boykins continues to receive interest from Virginia and Memphis, who are listed as offers of his by 247 Sports, but haven't extended official offers to him.

Boykins doesn't have a timeline currently for making a decision. However, given that his season doesn't start till October, it seems like he may be more likely to either make a decision before his season starts or wait till after his season to try to maximize his offers.

We will have more on Boykins soon, but it's clear that the Hokies are taking a close at the Gonzales, Louisiana defensive tackle.

2022 DB Ty Woodby

Virginia Tech has continued to send out new offers to the 2022 and 2023 classes including one to defensive back Ty Woodby, who recently reclassified from 2021 to 2022.

Woodby told us that he was "excited" to receive a Tech offer during a conversation with CBs coach Ryan Smith and assistant Corey Fuller. The conversation also came during a workout for Woodby, proving to be a nice break before getting back at improving his game.

Woody hadn't interacted with Virginia Tech's staff till the day before the Hokies extended an offer though he may quickly climb fairly high on Tech's cornerback board in 2022.

The Hokies are among four schools who have offered Woodby since he reclassified along with Maryland, Ole Miss, and Massachusetts. Woody also told us that the pandemic was the main reason for him reclassifying with his decision clearly boosting his opportunities to play college football at the highest level.

Ty Woodby is seeing his recruitment take off now that he has reclassified from 2021 to 2022 and will be a regional recruit worth monitoring next cycle.
