Check out the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes including updates on a grad transfer target for the 2021 sesaon, a talented JUCO prospect, and a top 2022 defensive lineman here.

Harvard CB Isaiah Wingfield

With five open scholarships, Virginia Tech seems likely to try to add some last minute grad transfers with Harvard CB Isaiah Wingfield being among those rumored with VT.

However, if Wingfield does end up at VT, it won't be for the 2020 season.

The Harvard grad transfer told us that he will be wrapping up his degree this fall before transferring for the 2021 season to his next school of choice. The Hokies are expected to have the flexibility to add a few transfers after this upcoming season with Tech continuing to be interested in Wingfield even if his on-field arrival wouldn't be till the 2021 season.

Tech isn't alone as Wingfield has already received an offer from Wake Forest while also receiving interest from Florida State, Virginia, and Eastern Michigan.

Wingfield is a very talented player who earned All Ivy League First Team honors during the 2019 season and would likely be able to come in and compete for a starting job whether that is at cornerback or nickelback. Cornerback may be more likely but nickelback could be a possibility with Divine Deablo set to graduate after this season and Chamarri Conner having the versatility to play a more traditional safety role.

Wingfield may not be suiting up somewhere this fall, but he could be an ACC starter somewhere for the 2021 season.

JUCO OL Ben Martinez

With numbers getting tight for the 25 spots for high school recruits in the 2021 class, Virginia Tech is looking at other routes to land talent given the good chance that they'll have the room to bring in more than 25 this offseason with 5 spots open and 15 more scholarship players entering their final seasons.

That includes a look at the JUCO ranks where Tech is continuing to show interest in offensive lineman Ben Martinez.

Martinez told us that he is currently receiving interest from the Hokies, California, and Texas Tech with multiple FCS offers to go with his Power 5 interest. Tech is recruiting him to play on the interior of the offensive line either at guard or center.

Martinez previously told us that his FCS offers have reached out to him about playing this fall while his Power 5 interest seems more slanted towards a January arrival at least at the moment. However, there is always the possibility that could change especially with the Hokies having 5 open scholarships currently for the 2020 season.

2022 4* DE Beau Atkinson

Four-star DE Beau Atkinson has already emerged as one of Virginia Tech's top defensive line targets in the 2022 class.

Atkinson told us that Virginia Tech and Virginia are currently recruiting him the hardest with Atkinson adding that he is "very interested" in the Hokies. Defensive line coach Darryl Tapp has been leading the charge with Atkinson with him telling us that Tapp is "awesome" and "very personable."

One advantage that Tech does have with Atkinson early on is the fact that he did visit Blacksburg in early March for Tech's Junior Day right before the current dead period. Since then, Atkinson has personally taken a visit to Virginia and also told us that he is planning to take one to Blacksburg "sometime this month."

Keep an eye on Atkinson as an early name to watch to be one of Virginia Tech's top defensive line targets in the 2022 class.
