As the start of the 2020 season is almost down to 2 weeks away for Virginia Tech, here's a look at some of the latest Virginia Tech football recruiting notes.

3* WR Eric McAlister

Numbers may be tight for Virginia Tech especially at wide receiver with 3 already committed in Da'Wain Lofton, Tray Curry, and Jaylen Jones. Despite that, the Hokies are keeping an eye on some talented wide receivers including three-star WR Eric McAlister from Texas with the Hokies making the cut in his recruitment.

The Hokies were joined in McAlister's top 7 by Nebraska, Wisconsin, Utah, Boise State, San Diego State, and Wyoming in a very interesting mix of schools that lacks an in-state program. On top of that, none of those schools are in neighboring in another indication that McAlister is clearly open to potentially going across the country for his college football career.

McAlister fits the mold of a bigger, outside WR at 6'3'' though the Hokies already have someone in that role in this class in Tray Curry. However, if something were to change with Curry or if Tech were to find some more room ,it's definitely possible that McAlister could end up in Blacksburg.

For now, Boise State appears to be the favorite and currently is the leader in his 247 Sports' Crystal Ball. Given that he's releasing a top 7 now, it's also possible that a decision may not be too far away.

2022 4* DE Beau Atkinson

Beau Atkinson may be one of the most talented recruits in the state of North Carolina in the 2022 class, but it's a couple of teams from just north of him that were the first to show how much they value him as a top target.

Atkinson told us that Virginia Tech and Virginia were the first two teams to reach out to him after midnight on Tuesday. Atkinson specifically heard from Tech head coach Justin Fuente and defensive line coach Darryl Tapp.

His conversation with Tapp went particularly well as the two are clearly building a strong relationship.

"It was really good. He’s a great guy and a really smart coach since he’s played in the league for so long," Atkinson said.

As mentioned above, Atkinson also exchanged a few messages with Justin Fuente who made it clear that he is looking forward to building a stronger relationship with him.

Tech has made Beau Atkinson one of their top defensive end priorities in the 2022 class with the Hokies off to a strong start in his recruitment.

2022 3* OL Ryan Nolan

757 standout Ryan Nolan was among the many recruits that Virginia Tech reached out to once the clock hit midnight on September 1st. Nolan specifically heard from defensive line coach Darryl Tapp, who went to the same high school as Nolan does.

During that conversation, Tapp had a clear message for the interior offensive line prospect from the 757 as Nolan recounted to us.

"That i'm the #1 prospect at my position for them," Nolan said.

Beyond that, Nolan told us that his conversation with Tapp was "great" as a whole with Tapp making it clear that Tech values what Nolan can bring to the table a lot.

Unsurprisingly, the Hokies weren't the only school to reach out to him. Nolan told us that he has also heard from Pittsburgh, Clemson, Michigan State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Rutgers, Temple, East Carolina, and more.

Nolan also has some r with Tech looking to continue that on by landing their top interior offensive line prospect in the 2022 class.
