Virginia Tech has had plenty of success recently recruiting in the state of Texas with Alec Bryant and Robert Wooten signing as part of the 2020 class, and Dematrius Davis and Latrell Neville currently headlining Tech's 2021 class. However, the Hokies are looking to add more talent from the Lone State State to their 2021 class including three-star offensive lineman Canon Boone.

Boone told us that while he doesn't have any leader or schools standing out in his recruitment currently, Virginia Tech is among three schools recruiting him the hardest along with Nevada and UTSA. Boone hears most often from Virginia Tech offensive line coach Vance Vice and assistant Beau Davidson with Vice leading the charge at this point.

He had this to say about what his relationship is like with the Hokies' offensive line coach and what Vice's message usually is.

"We stay in touch. We call every week or so to touch base and catch up. He tells me about VT and how great of a place it is," Boone said.

Overall, the Hokies are "pretty high" in the recruitment of Canon Boone currently in part because Vance Vice's prioritization of him.

"They’re ranked high because they are a big time school that is really interested in me and the offensive line coach really likes me and thinks that I’m a good fit there," Boone said.

Unsurprisingly, Boone told us that Virginia Tech is one of the schools that he hopes to visit when the opportunity is available to do so. That feeling is mutual with the Hokies looking to get him "on campus as soon as possible" which is obviously dependent on what happens going forward in trying to contain and destroy the COVID-19 pandemic.

Boone also mentioned Purdue and Colorado as two others schools he hopes to visit once he is able to. Those 2 plus the Hokies are some of his headline offers along with Houston, Nevada, New Mexico, Hawaii, Rice, and more at the moment. That list could grow in the not too distant future with Texas Tech, West Virginia, and Wake Forest all showing interest in him.

The inability to take visits does have Canon Boone preparing for a more elongated recruiting process especially if the dead period extends into the summer.

"I was going to plan some visits to schools this summer to help me make that decision but with all of this craziness happening I don’t know if that will happen," Boone said.

For now, Virginia Tech has emerged as a serious contender for three-star OT Canon Boone as the Hokies look to add another Texas star to their 2021 class.
