While Virginia Tech is poised to host their major recruiting barbecue this Saturday, three-star Zakee Wheatley plans to make a trip a little before the weekend barbecue. Zakee Wheatley told us that he plans to visit Virginia Tech this Thursday, July 25th. Wheatley, a three-star athlete who earned an offer after working out in front of offensive coordinator Brad Cornelsen, will be taking his first visit to Blacksburg when he arrives in two days. Virginia Tech is the latest to receive a visit from Wheatley who has also taken summer visits to Michigan State, Michigan, and Virginia. Additionally, Wheatley will be Penn State this Saturday while also looking to take trips to West Virginia and Boston College before his high school football team's training camp starts August 5th. Wheatley is a versatile athlete who has the size and skills to play either wide receiver or defensive back at the collegiate level given his 6'3'' frame. While it seems like the Hokies are focusing on him as a wide receiver recruit currently, it wouldn't be surprising if VT recruited him more purely as an athlete and monitored his development before making any sort of decision as to what position to pursue him at. This weekend is poised to be a major one for Virginia Tech football recruiting, but the Hokies will kick it off a couple of days early when they host fast-rising 2021 athlete Zakee Wheatley this Thursday.
