Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Virginia Tech offensive lineman Joe Kane is entering the transfer portal with a source confirming to us Kane's intentions.

Kane started his Virginia Tech career at defensive tackle, but quickly switched to the offensive line after he was unable to gain traction on the depth chart at DT. Unfortunately, Kane was also unable to gain much traction on the interior of the offensive line with several younger players ahead of him.
Kane still has three years of eligibility remaining with a source telling me that he is looking to transfer to the FCS level. In the meantime, Kane is still practicing with the team as there is no reason why Kane can't continue on through the rest of the regular season before formally entering the transfer portal after.
For the Hokies, Kane's departure does free up another scholarship for a small 2020 recruiting class with numbers being extremely tight. It remains to be seen if Kane's departure actually has an effect on where the Hokies focus their recruiting efforts for filling out the 2020 class.
