Earlier today, news broke that Winston-Salem SG Isaiah Wilkins, a 2019 recruit, is considering reclassifying back into the 2018 class with Virginia Tech and Wake Forest open to him joining their teams this fall.
After that news, we caught up with Wilkins who revealed the current leader in his recruitment.
Wilkins told us that Virginia Tech currently leads for him in his recruitment because of how they have been showing him the most interest.
Wilkins has been up to Blacksburg as he had a "pretty good" visit to VT earlier this summer. He added that "the home feeling, scenery, and coaches" stood out to him on his visit. Wilkins also visited Wake Forest "shortly after" his trip up to Blacksburg.
Currently, the Hokies and Wake Forest are the only two schools to have offered him as a 2018 recruit while High Point has extended to him an offer as a 2019 recruit.
Wilkins is still undecided as to whether he will reclassify back into the 2018 class after previously planning to spend a year at Hargrave Military Academy, one of the top prep schools in the country.
With one scholarship open, it's clear that the Hokies are looking to fill it with Isaiah Wilkins being the top known priority for that spot. Bringing in Wilkins would give VT a true depth replacement for Tyrie Jackson
on the wing while giving VT more depth at a spot that will need it with Ahmed Hill and Ty Outlaw entering their final seasons.
Isaiah Wilkins is a recruit to watch as the Hokies look to fill their open scholarship spot this fall.
