LaMareon James has become one of the top 757 football players in the 2020 class with the versatility to play on either side of the ball with 10 touchdowns, 569 receiving yards, and 2 interceptions this past season. Because of that, James has built up a strong offer with multiple Power 5 offers from Virginia Tech, Michigan, Auburn, Maryland, and North Carolina.
However, one school has emerged above the rest as the leader in James' recruitment.
James told us that Virginia Tech currently leads in his recruitment because "over the past few months, Virginia Tech's coaching staff has been keeping in touch with me the most." James also added that the Hokies are recruiting him the hardest.
Likely in part because of that, James is making an early spring visit to Blacksburg a priority with plans to visit the Hokies on one of VT's January junior days. James is also planning on visiting Michigan, Kentucky, and North Carolina in the near future.
So what is James looking to see on his upcoming trip to Blacksburg?
"I’m looking forward to seeing the whole campus and learning more about the school," James said.
This will be James' second visit to Virginia Tech after the three-star athlete visited the Hokies for their primetime game against Notre Dame. James told us that he had a "great" visit
and that he was impressed by the "energy" from the players, coaches, and fans in addition to being "surprised" by how he was recognized by Hokie fans.
Virginia Tech is likely looking to add at least one slot receiver with James being a top priority on offense regardless of position. The versatility of James makes him a very good fit given his speed in the slot and comfort with being involved in the running game from the slot.
Early on, Virginia Tech is making a strong impression on LaMareon James with VT emerging as the leader in the talented 757 athlete's recruitment.
