Virginia Tech Moves Up to No. 11 in Latest AP Poll

A team that scores only 47 points in a game probably wouldn’t get much love in the polls usually. But when they hold a top 25 team to just 24 points on the road, they’ll get more recognition. That’s exactly what happened to Virginia Tech this weekend, as the Hokies moved up one spot to No. 11 after defeating NC State 47-24 on Saturday. Neither team performed very well offensively, but the victory was enough for the voters to move Tech up just a little bit in the latest poll. The win was Tech’s second of the season against a top 25 team, but they’ll get another chance soon. The Hokies take on Louisville tonight in Cassell Coliseum. The Cardinals come into the game ranked No. 16 after falling a spot in this week’s poll. Other ACC teams receiving rankings this week include No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Virginia and No. 8 North Carolina in the top 10. Louisville and No. 22 Florida State round out the ranked ACC teams. After Tech plays Louisville tonight, the Hokies’ next ranked opponent will be UVA on Feb. 18 in Blacksburg. Tech will face off against Clemson, Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh before then.
