The transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh.

For Virginia Tech, it's been mostly the latter so far this fall as the Hokies have seen multiple players enter it including Hendon Hooker, Doug Nester, Bryan Hudson, and Quincy Patterson. However, they are looking to add some players via the transfer portal with Western Kentucky offensive lineman Tyler Witt emerging as a top target.

Witt told us that he has received offers from Virginia Tech and Purdue so far with Texas, Northwestern, Kansas State, Illinois, and California also showing interest in him. He had this to say about where Virginia Tech currently stands in his recruitment.

"I would say it is a very good option to consider. It has a lot to offer from a good schedule to the new facilities it has," Witt said.

Unsurprisingly, it was offensive line coach Vance Vice who reached out to Witt as the first point of contact from Tech. However, it does give us a clear indication that the Hokies value Witt quite highly and see him as a strong potential fit on their offensive line.

Vice has also had a clear message for Witt about how well he would fit in Blacksburg.

"Just that the O-Line room would be the perfect place for me. Said that after watching my tape, he felt that I have the same type of mindset as the other guys in the room and would be a good fit there," Witt said.

Witt has definitely proven that he has the talent to make the jump to the Power 5 level and be successful as an offensive guard who has been a starter for Western Kentucky since halfway through his redshirt freshman season in 2017. He also earned a spot on the Pro Football Focus National Team of the Week earlier this season in mid-October.

There's also a clear starting opportunity that Witt would absolutely fit into at right guard with Doug Nester and Bryan Hudson transferring out. While Silas Dzansi could also be an option, Dzansi may be a starting tackle alongside Luke Tenuta next season if Christian Darrisaw heads for the NFL as expected given how he's considered a first round talent.

Keep an eye on Tyler Witt as the Hokies look to add some talented players from the transfer portal to fill some needs for their 2021 team.
