Zay Peterson, a 2020 safety from Hartsville, SC, enjoyed his recent visit to Blacksburg. He says he enjoyed getting to spend time with safeties coach Justin Hamilton and observe practice. "It was great," said Peterson of the opportunity to watch a live spring practice. "I like the pace of practice and the energy." While Peterson enjoyed his time with all the coaches, he says he is building a unique relationship with Hamilton. That is due in part to their similarities in growing up. "We came from the same background, so we connect," said Peterson. "We never really had a father figure, so we both turned to football. We both want to do things to help kids and young men." Peterson says his relationship with Hamilton is increasingly close, and he is confident that he and Hamilton will "be seeing each other again." He added that his overall visit to Blacksburg impacted his recruitment "in a big way." While Peterson only has Power 5 offers from Colorado and Louisville, there is no doubt that more will be coming. Peterson thinks Virginia Tech is "very, very close" to offering him, and he says that such an offer would "have a big impact" on his recruitment.
